Having worked full-time on the family farm, John joined Oliver & Son Ltd as a trainee auctioneer on his 21st birthday. In the same year he became a member of The Institute of Auctioneers & Appraisers in Scotland where he has been a council member for 20 years and President for the years between 1998 and 2000. He has also been a member of SAAVA since 1983. John has been involved in valuations, compensation work and rural property sales throughout his career and was acting as a sole trader for 15 years before joining forces with Davidson & Robertson Rural and setting up the new Castle Douglas office with Huw Connick in 2010.
